Class of '23: Omi Balenciaga

Class of ’23 is a series bringing sexual health, community, and movement together. Join us for a night of free programming at Ace Hotel Toronto, where together, we’ll dive into the importance of HIV education, get to know some of Ballroom’s most influential performers, and explore the beauty of voguing.

For our November edition, we’ll dive into Consent in a session developed in partnership with Sexfluent, followed by a Vogue masterclass and fireside chat with Omi Balenciaga.

ABOUT OMI

N’yomi Stewart—or Omi “Oh My” Unbothered Balenciaga—is one of the standout Femme Queen performers of our generation, slowly but surely etching her name alongside the greats we all love and look up to. Introduced through the Iconic House of Juicy Couture but now the current New York City Mother of the House of Unbothered Cartier, Omi was quick to take the Kiki scene by storm and has since made more than just a splash in the Mainstream. With a talent demanding of undivided and unwavering attention, she continues to stamp herself as one to watch.

Off the floor, N’yomi is an interdisciplinary artist, and community organizer. She was the first black trans woman to graduate from the prestigious University of North Carolina School of the Arts Acting program receiving a B.F.A. and has since worked at the Public Theater (Off-Broadway: Richard III, A Raisin in the Sun) and other notable theatre companies such as The O’Neil, Manhattan Theatre Club, The Roundabout, The New Group, Playwrights Horizons, and The Old Globe.

In the past two years, she has been named a GALLIM Moving Artist Resident, New York Theater Workshop Artist in Residence (Dartmouth and Adelphi), Artist in residence with BTFA (Black Trans Femmes in the Arts), creating work centred around her trans experience as it connects to the world around her through text, movement, and imagination.

N’yomi recently worked on New York City’s hottest show of the summer CATS: The Jellicle Ball as the Associate Director. Currently she is commissioned by NYTW & Geffen Playhouse where she is writing her own play, tackling the tension around femininity and family within the Black Southern household.
